Summer Summer How I love thee

Oh how we are enjoying summer!! But what isn't to love right now: cool pool water, hot sweaty baseball games, sunkissed baby faces, and every night spend on the deck with a nice tall glass of sangria. I mean seriously, could it get any better? I don't think so. I found this quote and while it is a little racy it defines summer perfectly!
“Summer is kind of like the ultimate one-night stand: hot as hell, totally thrilling, and gone before you know it.” - Cosmopolitan

After our spring which was full of lots of storms, sleeping in the basement a few nights, watching a tornado (although small) form right over my hubbies work, and lots of cold nights wrapped in blankets at baseball games, summer is a welcome sight in our house. We are drinking it all in just like Ella drinks in the pool water!

We have been enjoying the pool ever since we got our pool pass. I am enjoying finally having all kiddos able to play at the pool without me having to be right there all the time. And with our kiddie pool this is happening faster than I thought. Kyndall and Ella both enjoy the kiddie pool and have played in it every day this week. Kyndall has even learned that when she falls down, she just has to stand back up. I love watching the fish in them come out.

Ella got some new water wings which are helping her be more confident in the water. I am thinking swimming school for both of them possibly in July but most definitely next spring.

Watching the kids in the pool is a reminder that our kids are really beautiful souls. Chase is very gentle with Ella and is helping her overcome her slight fear of the water. She is learning so much easier than if I were to try it. He listens to her and follows her commands, which doesn't happen most of the time.

And although the pool calls our name daily, the garden is my sanctuary right now. The growth is phenomenal and the quiet method of picking the weeds and picking the veggies is just the medicine a mother of 3 needs :).  I am a mission this month to learn more quotes and read more quotes. I absolutely love reading them and feel that I grow a little more each time I read one. So here are my favorites so far when it comes to gardening.

There can be no other occupation like gardening in which, if you were to creep up behind someone at their work, you would find them smiling.  ~Mirabel Osler

Boy isn't that the truth. I am like a little kid when we put the girls to bed because I know that I get to run out to the garden and do my work. I do work in it occasionally during the day but at night is when the watering and real work starts. The picking and moving of mulch. The pampering of the plants leaves and flowers to make sure they are all getting ample light.

Then there is the picking of the veggies, sweet peas right now. Heaven I tell ya!

The best place to seek God is in a garden.  You can dig for him there.  ~George Bernard Shaw, The Adventures of the Black Girl in Her Search for God, 1932

I have to admit that this the probably the main reason I garden. It allows me to watch God work right in front of my eyes. I see this daily with the blooming of flowers that quickly turn to veggies. It also allows me to find the quiet time to find him and to hear him. And boy do I ever hear him louder than ever there.  His song for me is beautiful and to know that he is smiling and singing for me is the best sound I have ever heard....well maybe a quick second to hearing Mommy every morning.

Gardening also allows me to connect with my kiddos in a way that is non stressful and organic. It allows them to get dirty and allows them to watch something grow. It teaches them responsibility and teaches them that when you take care of something it always rewards you. For instance, our strawberries are finally ready to be picked. This is a daily trip for me and the girls. We pick the ones that are red and shiny and we nurture those that are still white. We pick weeds and water so that they have the best chance to grow nice and juicy. We are all really proud of our harvest so far and like they always say "nothing taste like a homegrown strawberry". Its so true!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We are headed into more powerwashing and more yardwork. Add in some pool time and lots of sandbox, man do we have a good weekend planned!!
