Big ole' fat Christmas Post

Christmas has come and gone. The presents are all nestled all snug in their tubs while mom continues to try and get our house back to pre Christmas shape :). We are so incrediably blessed and it is all so evident of this fact during the holidays. Here is our Christmas in pictures, because really what other way is there.

Our first visit was to Grandma Sue's. It was a great time seeing uncles and enjoying yummy food.

35

Well today the big man of the house turned 35. He reminded me about a bizillion times that he had now moved down in the age brackets when filling out surveys and such. Why is it men hit this "oh my Im really getting old" later than women do? Remember 30, yep I do, it was traumatic. But I am here and that my friends is worth celebrating. So we did just that tonight, celebrated a birthday for a great man in all of our lives!

Now that's my kind of birthday haul. He wanted to the headphones to drown out his nagging wife be able to watch his movies while I sleep.

Tonight was our last night to do anything "family Christmasy" so we went on our annual minivan express. It was a ton of fun, even if it was impromtu and quick!

We went to a few of our favorite places with a stop in between for some hot cocoa. Along the way I punched the kids tickets, just like they do in the movie. It was kind of comical listening to Chase trying to figure out what it was going to say.
Can you figure it out?

Needless to say we have alot of it going around right now!

Earlier in the day was sisters class party and it was a hit! I still get nervous but watching those little kiddos have so much fun is the best!

These were their yummy cupcakes at the party. They were a hit :)

Other than today we have been busy here at home getting ready for Christmas. Lots of present wrapping and baking. I swear if I ever did open a bakery, and I might someday, I am thoroughly prepared for it. I have mastered oven rotation and scheduling of mixing. I am a pro.

I don't think I will be posting again until after Christmas. I am vowing to focus more time on really being "there" for my kids. No computer, no phone, no facebook, no texts. But being there, in the moment, with them. It seems the nation is going through the same thing I am. This school shooting, for whatever reason, has really affected me. I cry daily for those babies. Packing Ella's backpack Monday morning was one of the hardest things I think I have ever done. I even called Ryan and said would it be wrong of me to just keep her home this whole week. I knew I couldn't but oh my goodness did I want to. I have my vigil some time during the day and sometimes at night. I pick one of those babies we lost to talk to and ask for them to help us all down here cope with their loss. I talked to the principal and cried because I know exactly how much she loves all of her students. It has been hard. But I am a better mom because of this tragedy. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas or holiday break.

Thankful

My kindergartener came home on Friday and told me all about her fun day at school at her reindeer party. I feel guilty but so thankful that she did. The grief that those parents are going through, to me, is unimaginable. Every time I start to think about what happened in that school my body goes on strike. The tears are all that I can offer these parents. I feel that I am a changed parent because of this, but then again who can watch or hear about this and not be changed. I made a quick video of our past week since I am trying to soak up every minute of kids that I can. Nothing is more important right now, nothing. Enjoy the video and we will see some of you real soon for Christmas.

I keep this proverb in my head: The soul is healed by being with children. So true.

Ornaments and basketballs

With the washing machine and dishwasher running it is a clear sign that our weekend is over. Monday has always been my catch up day and I tend to like it that way. Any excuse to stay in yoga pants with no make up! We had a great weekend complete with tree decorating, basketball game, and a trip to the Little Apple to watch the Cats play.

One of my favorite things to do all year is when we get out our ornaments. My parents started a collection for me when I was little and I am still collecting them. I love opening the boxes and remembering the ornaments. I really want this for my kiddos so we started a collection for each of them the year they were born. So far Hallmark has continued each of the series', yay! I noticed this year the girls really enjoyed seeing their ornaments and spend several minutes a day looking and touching them. It is great.

Big sister's series....why hello there Santa!

Brother's series is my fave. It reminds me of those times when it was just me and him. It reminds me of how special that boy is to me. He saved my life many a times, back in the day.

Chase also had his first basketball game. They played well and won!

We also had to get some family pics taken seeing as they are Christmas presents most of the time :). In honor of KState's win on Saturday night the kids tried the KSU pic:

We would take a picture and then the girls would run off to find Bernie. They adore this kitty.

See, no matter where we were, the cat and the girls were together.

We had fun getting these pictures taken. I am sure fond of all these beautiful faces :)

We are looking forward to a somewhat busy week and then a little early Christmas celebration with family. Happy Monday.
